12 Guidelines For Buying A Business
Buying a domain name is exactly like buying a business. If there is a website already established then you are buying a business. Either way, I want buyers to be sure of what they are doing. With that in mind I have developed some ideas for you to consider.
#1.) Pay a price based on past performance or an appraisal. Consider the present and how that fares with your plans. Most important though is that you buy for the future. The financials and appraisal will help you determine the price. But they will not guarantee performance once you take over the ownership. That is why you buy based on the future you envision.
#2.) Buy a good business that you can make great.
#3.) Review all the parts of the business and create a plan allowing you to create growth while understanding at what cost.
#4.) It should be a business you enjoy but be sure you fall in love with the profit. Emotions in a business environment serve no value when tough decisions are required.
#5.) You have talents and skills. Use them because they are what you do best. Concentrate on that and you will manage the rest.
#6.) At every point possible, allow autopilot to work for you. Technology is a wonderful employee when it is a feasible concept.
#7.) Pinpoint those components that the seller has not yet exploited and clearly will increase your profit.
#8.) Make sure the business is explainable to others in simple terms.
#9.) Make sure the business is one you are able to explain with great enthusiasm.
#10.) Be sure that the business you buy is one you will be proud to own.
#11.) Identify what is not perfect about the business. Do this and you will provide yourself a starting guide for increasing the businesses ability to be profitable.
#12.) In the end, after all the details are discovered and reviewed, only you can decide what the business is worth to you. This will be the moment when you decide to buy or not. Consider all that was mentioned above and you have a very good chance of making your decision intelligently.
